Us moms know that finding time for ourselves isn't always easy. The kids schedules basically rule our lives. Whether we're stay at home moms or working moms its not easy and the duties never end. Prioritizing getting in your workout and making healthy meals can seem impossible but I'm here to tell you it's not, and once you get into it, it'll become so natural for you.
Working on ourselves, especially to keep us healthy is not a selfish use of our time, it's actually selfless. To be fit and strong for years to come, to be able to keep up with our own children and our grandkids one day is a giving your family the gift of a vibrant future. With you being there to be present, to enjoy life and create memories. Not being sick and weak and needing them to take care of you.
Healthy is the new Wealthy.
Yes, healthy is the goal. To be a fit mom, who can run and play and enjoy life with the littles. To take care of them and not feel run down and exhausted all the time. But how can you squeeze in time for your own health when your so busy taking care of everyone elses needs? I get it, it can be tricky but once you get into the routine, it'll feel abnormal to miss a day.
You must make yourself a priority. You deserve to live a vibrant life and to feel great doing it!
Start by scheduling in time for yourself.
Choose a time that works for you. If you're like me a mom who works, I know that at 7 am I have to get the kids up, get them ready for school, leave for work, come home after work to rush around, getting lunches packed, dinner ready, kids to sports and dance, get them to bed, clean the house and keep up with laundry. It's alot and can be super overwhelming at times. So getting up early was the key for me t be sure I had the time to get my workout in. I started getting up a 5am, I am a morning person so this wasn't hard for me to do. Yes, somedays I'd rather not especially in the colder months but I know that time is precious and it's when I can get my workout in uninterrupted and get on with my day. If you are simply not a morning person, maybe you schedule in time for yourself after the kids are in bed or if your a stay at home mom you make it mandatory to give yourself an hour after school drop off. Whenever you can just be sure to set aside the time. 5 days a week. Take two rest days for yourself to do as you please but by making this time non-negotiable you are creating a new habit and it's one that will show amazing results in your life. Physically and mentally. Creating self discipline and helping you to find your bad ass self.
Home workouts as a busy mom have been my life! Trying to make it to the gym is not really in the cards for me. The added time of driving to the gym and home just doesn't fit my schedule, so grabbing some weights and an elliptical off market place was a great investment for me! There are also unlimited workouts on YouTube. Get creative search Instagram for workout inspo and save them, write down each exercise that you want to incorporate into your routine. If you can make it to the gym thats great. Just finding what fits into your life best is key!
Make a game plan.
Knowing your plan of action is huge and sets you up for success. If you know what your doing on which days you can go into it almost empty minded. Not having to overthink which gives you the opportunity to talk yourself out of it or make excuses. Knowing what days/times and what workouts you're doing really is key to just getting it done. I personally have written out multiple workouts. Full body, lower body, upper-body, abs. Add in a walk or 20 mins on the elliptical and you will have a well rounded workout that'll take no more than an hour. You surely can spare an hour for your health and wellbeing. If you are short on time and need to do 20 mins or half an hour, at least you did something. Just don't allow yourself to skip days unless absolutely necessary due to some unforeseen incident or illness.
You can write out your workouts on paper, save them in your notes on your phone or find youtube workouts you like and subscribe to those channels.
When going to the grocery store make sure you have a plan of healthy meals you would like to eat this week and buy what you need for those, if you have busy nights you can find quick easy healthy recipes or if you're into meal prep, set aside a few hours on Sunday to get some prep done to be sure you have healthy meals ready to avoid grabbing drive thru or ordering a pizza. I have 3 days a week of soccer with my son, and 4 nights a week of dance with my daughter so I know the struggle of trying to cook dinners that are quick and health or not feeling like I have time to pack myself a healthy lunch. I buy those bagged salads from the store, and have precooked chicken breast I chop up and add in, or even a can of tuna or some shrimp. Bring that to work with a bowl and a fork and I'm set with a yummy healthy salad full of veggies and added protein. Quick easy and keeps me on track with very minimal effort.
Healthy Habits only get Easier
Once you have this routine set, you know when and what workouts you're doing. You're shopping for healthy, nutritious foods, you know what you're making for your meals, it actually gets alot easier. It takes the stress of "what am I going to cook tonight" away. When you are consistently getting in your exercise it becomes second nature and rest days actually start to feel weird. But, do take rest days as they are very important. You will thank yourself for finding the time to take care of your body. You will feel empowered knowing that you do this every day for yourself. Your family will thank you too, they will notice the changes in energy and how this time you've taken for yourself has made you happier and healthier. You will never regret improving your health, but you will regret not working for it, if one day its too late. Take the time and love yourself by doing things for your future self.
